The Cincinnati MR Imaging of Neurodevelopment (C-MIND) study is a joint venture led by the Pediatric Neuroimaging Research Consortium at CCHMC in collaboration with the Laboratory of Neuroimaging (LONI) at USC and the University of Cincinnati.
Researchers at the Laboratory of Neuro Imaging (LONI) located at the Institute for Neuroimaging and Informatics are working in collaboration with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Together we are conducting a research study the purpose of which is to establish what areas of the brain are normally used during listening, speaking, or paying attention. The knowledge and experience gained from imaging language functions in your brain may be helpful in the future in better understanding how brain diseases and their treatment affect the brain and its function. C-MIND is supported by a contract with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), charged with creating standardized methods for recruiting, scanning, and processing data using traditional functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) coupled with arterial spin labeling (ASL) perfusion. These methods will be transformed into manuals, image processing software, and data dictionaries, made available to interested researchers throughout the United States and the world.
In addition to developing these methods, the purpose of this neuroimaging research study is to investigate brain development in children between the ages of one month to three years and seven years to nine years-old. Specifically, C-MIND focuses on the study of language and attentional brain processes and the changes that occur during maturity. Our researchers hope to recruit and assess 40 children for a cross-sectional look at the differences in brain function throughout the age range.
This research study is conducted as part of The Pediatric Functional Neuroimaging Research Network, in collaboration with the The Cincinnati MR Imaging of Neurodevelopment study at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, which is supported by a NICHD contract: NIH HHSN275200900018C.
